A Nature Getaway at Eastwind Hotel

Though I love living in NYC, there are times when I feel a desperate need to leave the city and get some fresh air, and when that urge happens, Eastwind Hotel & Bar in the Catskills is the perfect remedy. With 26 accommodation options, you can essentially “choose your own adventure”, from luxury farmhouse-style rooms to the most minimal, glamping-style cabins, complete with private fire pits and unobstructed nature views. I opted for one of their Lushna cabins (pictured below), and it was the perfect mid-week retreat that I needed to come back to the city refreshed and energized.

We arrived early Wednesday evening, and as we approached the hotel, I received a text from the lovely hosts giving me a brief overview of the entire property, and a fire already going next to my cabin. There was a welcome set of s’mores supplies and canteen of homemade sangria - the perfect end to a drive up from the city. The cabin itself was very minimal, with just enough space for my small carry-on suitcase and backpack, and most of the square footage taken by the queen-sized bed, directly in the middle of the cabin and overlooking the huge window out to the field behind our cabin.

The next morning, I set an early alarm and went hiking with Koda nearby to get in some cardio before I logged in for work. The trails were so peaceful and the perfect amount of exercise to tire Koda out for the rest of the morning. Around lunchtime, we went for another short walk nearby on the Windham Path, a large loop just five minutes away from the hotel. Though we finished the loop within an hour, Koda was ready to nap all day as soon as we got back.

I stopped to grab some take out from a neighboring restaurant on the way back - The Windham Local. Everything on the menu looked so good, so I decided to order their chef salad and one of their specials, a chimichurri steak sandwich. I figured I’d burned quite a few calories throughout the day and was starving by the time I got the food, but their portions were SO generous, I barely finished half of the food until I had to give up. That being said, everything was SO delicious and kept me full even through dinner, so I highly recommend you stop by if you’re ever in the area!

Sadly, we were checking out the next morning, so I took it easy and we enjoyed the rest of the morning sitting around the fire pit. Though our stay was short, it was exactly what I needed to take a quick break from the nonstop pace of the city and the glamping-style layout of the cabin really made it feel as though I had escaped to the wilderness for a couple days.
