Road Trip Pt. 4 - Newport, OR
The day we checked out of our room in Bend was one of our most highly anticipated days for two reasons - first, it meant that we were beginning the OR Coast portion of our road trip and we were super excited to have some quality beach time with the dogs; second, and more importantly, it meant we were getting In n Out that day!! There’s one location in Keizer, OR, about a one hour detour from our drive to Newport, OR so of course we had to make the trip. That meant a total of 4.5 hours of driving and waiting almost an hour in the hot sun for two burgers and fries (and the most amazing Neapolitan milkshake), but WORTH IT. The dogs got their pup patties too, I think that was probably the highlight of the day for Koda.
After our stomachs and cravings were satisfied, we got back on the road and drove to our next stop, Newport, OR. We opted to stay at Hallmark Resort Newport since it was right on the beach, and we were very pleasantly surprised at how spacious our room was when we arrived. We stayed in their Pet-Friendly Limited Edition Two Queen room, and enjoyed having a separate living area with a sofa, fireplace, small kitchenette (with a dishwasher, sink, and Keurig), and walk out patio that led straight to the beach. The town itself is pretty small, so we didn’t explore much outside and opted to just stay close to the resort and the beach, which was the primary reason we came. The resort has a restaurant, Georgie’s, that is connected to it, and they offer the entire menu for room service, which was where we had every meal while we were there.
Our room was on the ground floor of the hotel, so we were able to walk out right onto the beach from our little outdoor patio. The beach was never too crowded and also super dog-friendly - we saw so many other pups while we were there! I think the majority of the hotel guests were dog owners, but it never felt TOO chaotic or loud. We spent three days in Newport, OR playing fetch on the beach, working, eating, going back to the beach, eating, sleeping, and repeating the whole cycle over again.
The last night, we decided to change it up a bit. We had seen a number of people build their own small bonfires right on the beach, so we inquired about it at the front desk and got a bonfire kit of our own! The kit comes in a large bucket, and includes a few pieces of firewood, some kindle, a lighter, s’mores supplies and a pair of wooden skewers. They also lent us a large beach blanket so we wouldn’t have to sit directly on the sand. We ordered some room service, brought it down to the beach with all of our supplies, and had dinner in front of the fire while watching the sun set and the waves crash up and down. Honestly one of my personal highlights from this entire road trip!
The next morning, we said our goodbyes and headed slightly further up the coast to our next stop: Salishan, OR!
